Denture Care

A little daily care goes a long way. With the right routine — and the occasional professional check — your dentures can stay comfortable, clean, and looking sharp for years.

Dentures are tougher than they look, but they're not indestructible. Dropping them on a hard sink, leaving them dry overnight, or scrubbing with regular toothpaste can shorten their lifespan or change how they fit. The good news is that good habits are simple once you know them.

We walk every denture patient through a cleaning routine that actually works: brush gently with a denture brush and mild cleanser, soak overnight in water or denture solution, and never use hot water (it can warp them). At your maintenance visits at our Scottsville office, we also professionally clean them to remove buildup a home routine can't reach.

If your denture cracks, a tooth pops loose, or the fit suddenly feels off — call us. Most repairs can be done quickly, and trying to fix a denture with household glue almost always makes things worse.

Why it matters

  • Simple daily routine that's easy to actually stick to
  • Professional cleaning at maintenance visits to remove deep buildup
  • Same-week repairs for most cracks, breaks, or loose teeth
  • Honest advice on when a denture is worth fixing vs. relining vs. remaking

Questions we hear

Should I sleep with my dentures in?+
Most dentists — including us — recommend taking them out overnight. It gives your gums a break, reduces the risk of fungal infection, and lets the denture soak in cleaner.
What cleaner should I use?+
A soft denture brush and either a denture cleanser tablet or mild dish soap. Avoid regular toothpaste — it's too abrasive and creates micro-scratches where bacteria settle. Never bleach.
My denture broke. Can it be fixed?+
Often, yes — depending on where the break is and how clean it is. Bring it in (don't try to glue it). We'll let you know whether a repair, reline, or new denture makes more sense.
