Pediatric Dentistry

A calm, patient first dental visit for your child — the kind of start that makes the dentist feel normal, not scary.

Pediatric dental care is mostly about building trust. A first visit at age one or two is short and gentle — counting teeth, a quick look, a sticker, a high five. The goal is for your child to leave feeling fine about coming back.

Dr. Azevedo and Dr. Lee both see children regularly. Families come to us from across Albemarle, Fluvanna, and Buckingham counties because it is easier to keep the whole family at one practice — siblings and parents on the same afternoon if you want.

As kids grow, we add what they need: sealants when permanent molars come in, fluoride if their cavity risk is higher, orthodontic screenings around age seven, and honest coaching on brushing habits. No pressure, no scare tactics.

Why it matters

  • Calm, age-appropriate visits that build trust early
  • Families can be seen together — easier scheduling for parents
  • Preventative care (sealants, fluoride) when it matters most
  • Two dentists means more flexibility for the times your child can come in

Questions we hear

When should my child have their first dental visit?+
The American Dental Association recommends a first visit by age one, or within six months of the first tooth coming in. The early visit is mostly about getting your child comfortable and giving you, the parent, good information.
What if my child is anxious about the dentist?+
Tell us when you call. We will plan a longer, slower visit. The first appointment may just be a tour and a tooth count — no exam at all if that is what your child needs. Trust comes first.
Do you take pediatric dental insurance?+
We accept most major dental plans, including those that cover children. Call and we will check your specific coverage before the appointment, so there are no surprises.
