Restore Your Smile

Fillings & Restorations

Tooth-colored fillings that blend in with your natural teeth — the modern way to repair a cavity.

When a cavity has weakened a tooth, a filling replaces the damaged area and restores the tooth's strength and shape. At Scottsville Family Dentistry we use tooth-colored composite resin — a durable, modern material that bonds directly to the tooth and matches its natural color.

Dr. Azevedo and Dr. Lee both prefer composite fillings over the older silver amalgam style. Composite preserves more of the healthy tooth, looks indistinguishable from your other teeth, and is the standard of care today. If you have older silver fillings that are leaking or breaking down, we can replace them as well.

Most fillings are completed in a single visit — usually under an hour. You leave with a tooth that chews and looks just like the others, and the only person who knows it is there is you.

Why it matters

  • Tooth-colored — no visible silver line at the gum
  • Bonds directly to the tooth, preserving more healthy structure
  • Most fillings completed in one visit
  • We can replace old silver fillings that are wearing out

Questions we hear

Do composite fillings hold up as well as silver?+
Yes. Today's composite materials are very durable and the standard of care for most situations. They are bonded to the tooth, which actually helps strengthen it. We use silver amalgam only in rare situations where it is the better technical choice.
Will my filling hurt afterward?+
Some patients have mild sensitivity to cold for a few days, especially with larger fillings. This usually fades on its own. If it lingers or gets worse, call us — occasionally a filling needs a small adjustment.
Should I replace my old silver fillings?+
Not always. If a silver filling is intact and not causing problems, it may not need to be replaced. But if it is cracked, leaking, or you simply do not like the look, we can replace it with a tooth-colored composite at your next visit.
