Preventative Care

Steady, preventative care is the simplest way to keep your teeth healthy — and to avoid longer drives to specialists later on.

Preventative care is the routine work that keeps your mouth out of trouble. Regular cleanings, fluoride when it is needed, sealants on the molars of young patients, and a careful look for the early signs of decay, gum disease, or grinding wear.

Dr. Azevedo and Dr. Lee take this part of dentistry seriously. ZIP 24590 reaches three counties, and many of our patients drive twenty or thirty minutes to see us. Catching problems early means fewer return trips, smaller bills, and less time in the chair.

A typical preventative visit takes under an hour: cleaning, polish, exam, X-rays if you are due for them, and a clear conversation about anything we notice. You leave with a plan you understand.

Why it matters

  • Catches small problems before they become expensive ones
  • Saves long drives to specialists for treatments that could have been avoided
  • Protects gum health, which protects overall health
  • Builds a record over time so we can spot changes that matter

Questions we hear

What does preventative care actually include?+
Cleanings, fluoride treatments when appropriate, dental sealants for kids and teens, X-rays at sensible intervals, oral cancer screening, and a thorough exam. It is the routine that keeps the bigger problems from showing up.
Will my insurance cover this?+
Most dental insurance plans cover two preventative visits per year at 100 percent. We will check your coverage when you call and let you know what to expect before your appointment.
I have no insurance. What are my options?+
Virginia Dental Club is our in-house membership plan, designed for patients without insurance. It covers preventative visits and gives you a discount on other treatments. Many of our Buckingham and Fluvanna patients use it.
