Oral Hygiene

Good oral hygiene is mostly what you do at home — and we will help you make it simpler and more effective.

Oral hygiene is the part of your dental care that happens every day at the bathroom sink. Brushing well, flossing in a way that actually works, choosing the right toothbrush, and knowing when to add a mouth rinse. None of it has to be complicated.

When you visit Scottsville Family Dentistry, your hygienist walks through what is working and what is not — without lecturing. Dr. Azevedo and Dr. Lee both believe that honest, practical coaching beats a generic pamphlet every time.

We also tailor recommendations to your mouth. Patients with crowded teeth, dental implants, braces, or gum sensitivity all need slightly different routines. We help you figure out yours.

Why it matters

  • Practical, personalized coaching — not a generic script
  • Recommendations matched to your mouth and your daily routine
  • Help for tricky situations: implants, braces, sensitivity
  • Cleaner teeth between visits means easier, more comfortable cleanings

Questions we hear

How often should I floss?+
Once a day is the realistic answer. The single best time is right before bed, so you go into sleep with a clean mouth. If a floss pick or water flosser is easier for you to actually use, that beats a perfect technique you never get around to.
Electric toothbrush or manual?+
An electric toothbrush does more of the work for you and tends to be gentler on gums. Manual brushes can be just as effective if used well. We will look at your brushing habits at your visit and tell you honestly which would help most.
Should I use mouthwash?+
Not everyone needs one. Patients with active gum issues, dry mouth, or a history of cavities often benefit. We will recommend a specific type only when it makes a real difference for you.
