Infection Control

A clean, careful clinical environment — what we do behind the scenes so every patient is safe.

Infection control is the routine, invisible work that keeps a dental office safe. Sterilization of instruments, single-use barriers, treatment-room turnover between patients, water-line monitoring, and ongoing training for every member of the team.

Scottsville Family Dentistry follows the standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Virginia Board of Dentistry. Dr. Azevedo and Dr. Lee believe that doing this well is not optional — it is part of caring for the families who trust us.

Many of the steps you will notice — the new pair of gloves, the sealed instrument pouches, the wiped-down chair before you sit down — are part of a much longer protocol. If you ever have questions about how we keep our office clean and safe, ask any team member and we will walk you through it.

Why it matters

  • Aligned with CDC and Virginia Board of Dentistry guidelines
  • Instruments sterilized in sealed pouches between patients
  • Single-use disposable supplies wherever appropriate
  • Ongoing team training — not a one-time checklist

Questions we hear

How are instruments sterilized?+
Reusable instruments are cleaned, packaged, and processed in a heat-sterilization autoclave that meets medical-grade standards. The pouches stay sealed until they are opened in front of you for your appointment.
What about water-line safety?+
We monitor and treat our dental water lines according to CDC recommendations. This is a step many patients never think about — but it is one of the most important parts of modern infection control.
Can I ask about your specific protocols?+
Yes. We are happy to walk any patient through how we keep the office safe. It is a question we welcome — please ask at your next visit.
